What is the Summits of The Americas?
The summits of the Americas are held every three to 4 years. There are 34 democratically elected Head of States and Governments in the western hemisphere that takes part in the summits. At the summits the 34 democratically elected Head of States and Governments discuss and exchange ideas on every thing from security challenges confronting the region and disaster management, to their opinions on politics, the economy, agriculture, education, health and social issues.

5th Summits of The Americas in Trinidad and Tobago?
Trinidad and Tobago can proudly boast that we would be the first ever Caribbean island to host the Summits of the Americas. The fifth summit would be held in T&T from the 17th to the 19th of April 2009. Our prime minister for one believes that this is a wise and potentially rewarding undertaking. He believes that the financial investments made towards preparing for the summits are worth it. The P.M. argues that by hosting the Summits of the Americas, we as a nation can expect a major increase in the number of international investing made in our country. Records of previous summit holders have shown that such countries do in fact experience an increase in international investment. It should also be noted that the first official trip that the American president Barrack Obama will be attending is indeed the 5th Summits of the America.
