No Visa Required To Visit England

Trinidad and Tobago has passed the British visa waiver test after a six-month mitigation period. In relating the good news in the British Parliament; Jacqui Smith (United Kingdom’s Home Department Secretary) and David Miliband (Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Secretary) were sure to add, that should circumstances require it the British government would reexamine the decision and take prompt action.

Our Minister of Foreign Affaires, Paula Gopee-Scoon, stated that these positive result stems from the British government satisfaction with the speed in which the machine-readable passports are being distributed (well I’m glad somebody is satisfied). However, there continues to be a lack of trust in those who are still traveling with the old passports; because in the past drug mules were caught in the United Kingdom with Trinidad and Tobago passports. Gopee-Scoon said that although concerns may continue to exist in the British government, once government proves that the machine-readable passports are foolproof the concerns should subside.

Gopee-Scoon does not attribute the visa waiver to Trinidad and Tobago hosting the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (either crime reduction because that doesn’t exist). Gopee-Scoon stated that the machine-readable passport which should take 4-6 months to be issued (normally 8-12 months) would soon take 2 weeks if they are able to meet their ultimate objectives.
