Tourism Is Dying In Trinidad And Tobago

Hotels in Tobago have made the announcement that in light of the decrease in visitors to the island they have dropped their rates. However, a little research reveals that as compared to Orlando, Barbados, and Curacaos, Tobago on average has the highest accommodation rates. So it obvious that tourism would be on the decline because many people a not willing to pay through their nose for some sand, sea and sun.

However our Minister of Tourism is trying to convince the public that our country can expect a booming carnival. Tourism is a money making industry, however, in light of the world economic situation it would be among the first industries to experience cut backs.

In 2007 North America and Europe experienced a drastic devastation to their housing industries leaving many homeless. So why would the Minister of Tourism think we would be experiencing an influx of tourist is beyond me.

Then there was the global financial meltdown where many persons lost their jobs. So obviously the first measure persons have put in place to deal with this crisis is discretionary spending. For many traveling to exotic destinations would be out of the question. Especially to destinations that are the most expensive and that are synonymous with cases of rape and murder.
