Valentines in T&T

To many of us here in Trinidad and Tobago Valentine’s day is a celebration for everyone to communicate their love for those they care about. Those persons usually includes their lover, good friends, family members even their work colleges. Here in Trinidad and Tobago Valentine’s has become much commercialized; therefore some are oppose the idea of celebrating the occasion. There choose to avoid what they see as exploitation. However many in T&T look forward to the day, so that they can treat their loved ones.

Many trinis get involved in the affair to a great extent by decorating their homes, making special meals, they make gifts and card, or may decide to make purchases of jewelry, perfume, flowers and chocolates. Even the hotels and restaurants give special offers to those who may chose to celebrate the occasion by visiting their establishment. Most of the people I know look forward to Valentine’s Day. Funny enough there were a few relationships that when on the rocks the male counter part failed to realize the importance of the occasion to his partner.

But no matter how you may choose to celebrate the occasion I do hope it’s an enjoyable one for you. Happy Valentines!

Why do we need one day to celebrate love. Isn’t love always celebrated. Valentines is just a marketing gimmick.

Its true that valentines is usually widely celebrated in T&T but i noticed that sales were way down this year. I guess it has to do with the economic situation.

I did nothing special for valentines. It came and went like any normal day for me. I belong to the “choose to avoid what they see as exploitation” group I guess lol.
